The propeller's spinning blades...

...held acquaintance with the waves.

youcan'tsaveyourself.

One thing I've noticed lately: our culture is constantly sending a a message of empowerment and self-relience to everybody. I walked through the room when my sisters were watching the teleset, and I was shocked and afraid to see two monkey puppets dominating the screen. It was some sort of commercial about "going green". I'm fine with being a good steward, but then they said something that disturbed me deeply. They told the kiddies that by recycling, they could "save the planet". Maybe I'm just being weird, but isn't that disturbing? You CAN'T "SAVE" ANYTHING. I cannot stress that enough. Apart from God, everything humans do is so selfish it's funny. Our "righteousness" is like filthy rags. And we're all equal in the eyes of God.

Which brings me to this. Something else I've noticed that's egregious and erroneous: people say that electing a black president is a victory over racism. Disclaimer: this isn't any sort of bitterness over the fact Senator Obama was elected, this is objective. Correct me if I'm misinformed, but 10, 100, or 1000 years ago, people were exactly the same as they were today. We have NOT ascended to a greater level of anything. Sure, there's a lot more general knowledge than there was then (interesting...that's in the Bible) but still, humans are humans. Racism is sin, and sin is part of the fallen nature of man, and humans can't "overcome" that. I'm not pessimistic, I'm realistic.

But, thank heaven, there's a remedy. A remedy that descended 2000 years ago. Honestly, be quiet for a while and just think about that.

Rant for the day.

I've always wanted to use that title that i used as a title, even if it's irrelevant and makes no sense. This song is amazing on so many levels. I just want to somehow see a visual representation of it and dance around or something.

It's been far too long since I've updated, and I think I'll use this more often, it's always an entertaining diversion to spew forth my thoughts onto a keyboard. So, what's been going on lately?

I've found that I really, really love music. I also have found that I really, really need to do something about that, and soon. If I don't I'm liable to explode and accidently destroy everything, which is what would happen if I DID do something about that, so it would be much more fun for everybody involved if i did something about it. I'm not sure exactly WHAT I'll do yet, but I need to do something, because I don't think God just randomly decided that He would make me love music. There's a purpose. And in January, I'll get to do a bit of acoustic expression.

Have you ever thought about Christmas music? Isn't it really strange that it exists? Why not Easter music? Someday, somebody will make a Easter album, and it'll be great, and nobody will get it because nobody MAKES Easter music. I suppose I could be the first. Well, I guess there's SOME songs that could be considered "Easter songs". But not really.

This is incredibly rambling, disjointed, and other things like that. I wrote parts of it at different times, so don't think I'm crazy. Perhaps just inspired!

promises, porkers, and politicians

Mostly I just wanted to use the word "porkers" in the title, in addition to politicians, so I figured that promises worked there.

It's been FAR too long. I feel like blogging about politicians, even though most people who read this already know everything I'm going to say, I'm still doing it. And if it seems angry, it's because this is a rather nasty subject. I'm not an angry person, it's just my observations. Perhaps I'm just insane!

I was watching a bit of the presidential debate tonight, and a thought came to my mind: why do people put so much faith in politicians? I mean, think about it. basically, there's two people up there arguing about myriad issues, and making harsh accusations about each other, which the other one quickly denies and attacks the other one, and then THEY deny it...you get it. Which means one of them is a liar at any given point. After the VP debate, which I enjoyed far more because of the nonpoliticalness of a certain one of the candidates, I went online and found an interesting diagram. It showed every time they stated contradictory facts, and showed which one of them was lying. Most of the time, it was a bizarre twist on the truth, which is still a lie. Anyway.

Politicians are humans. No worse than the rest of us, but no better. So why do we have stadiums full of people worshiping somebody who makes the same promises hundreds of other candidates have made? And I mean worshiping. From dictionary.com:

Worship -

–verb (used with object)

6.to render religious reverence and homage to.

7.to feel an adoring reverence or regard for (any person or thing).

That seems to describe it pretty well. Really, I'm just extremely tired of the masses putting their faith in a HUMAN. Humans are, by nature, treacherous, deceitful, self-serving things and you know it. That's not to say that all people are always like that, but they certainly have the potential and tendency to be! So then, WHY worship something that's no better than you? WHY can't people understand that?

They probably would, if they really thought about it. But once you reject God, what else is there? We need to worship something. And it's not just the atheists that are rejecting God, it's christians who wear their christianity as a cute little accessory, and never REALLY incorporate God into every single aspect of their lives. Because if you're totally and completely in love with and devoted to Jesus, you don't NEED a politician to worship. You don't need a political system to assimilate to. You don't need to look for a Saviour on capitol hill. Yeah, I guess people always worship something. Anything that can fill the void of the God they rejected, even if they never admitted it to themselves. And I'm not leaving myself out of this, all of us are guilty at one time or another of replacing God with something else.

But it just seems a supreme idiocy to put trust in the promises of liars.

confusion strikes.

just so you know, the end of this song is probably the greatest ever written. just kidding, not THE greatest. (*fin) takes that, i think. or some will seek forgiveness, others escape. or even your friends are fake, with a better recording quality anyway. one of the greatest. because of hayley's cameo. someday, i'll write an epic song like that. i hope. you see, nobody understands what i'm talking about right now except renée, and she's sitting next to me.

confusion.

i had a thought the other day, thursday to be exact, i think around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

why do little kids like dinosaurs?

they KILL STUFF. they're horrible reptiles that would just LOVE to consume you for their latest meal. so why are kids so enamoured with them? (renée says it's because they live vicariously through the dinos, but not ALL kids are that violent. ok, they are.)

i could understand a hardened military general loving dinosaurs. they sure would make a good weapon. capable of GREAT destruction. and kids like them. WHY? it's akin to the crusty general liking unicorns. nevermind, they're more devastating. so are teletubbies, and barney. all my examples are getting crushed by logic. teddy bears? perhaps, a general liking teddy bears. they're no good to him, they would only remind him of a tragic past and weaken his shell.

dinos are no good to kids, they would just create a tragic future and weaken their shell. of bones. by eating it.

most kids, however, don't have exoskeletons. anyway, i'm gonna go to bed. do children like nuclear weapons??? same logic as dinosaurs. i'm just confused. goodnight, children.

sin, grace, and frozen delights

to be perfectly honest, i'm not listening to that song right now. but it's lyrics are most likely going to end up defining what i talk about.*

so, all the great artistic people suffer as they produce their magnum opus. therefore, this must be shaping up to be a pretty amazing entry, because i really want ice cream right now. and i'm not having it yet. if at all. it really depends on a few things i'd rather not even begin to tell you, because you should be working on your grammar (yes, renée, grammAr) rather than reading this.

i know this is turning out to be just like all the other blogs i've ever done. perhaps, anyway.

i've been thinking about SIN.

which sounds really funny. go up to somebody on the street and say that with a huge grin, and see how they react. it'll be fun, i promise!

anyway, yes, sin. something that's seemingly almost mostly regularly treated very much wrongly (that sentance just BEGGED for bad grammAr). and it's an uncomfortable subject either way. truth always is, in one way or another! but it seems that people always gravitate between the two extremes. one being (as the poor girl wearing pants instead of a denim jumper walks into church) "YOU SINNER! HELLFIRE UPON YOU,  HALLELUJAH!" and the other being (picture a well-dressed man with a fine smile with a bunch of kids sitting around him. and he's holding a knife behind his back, likely as not. much more likely than not.) "hey kids, guess what? sin is relative and irrelavant! so come to our nonspecificreligion church, and you don't have to adhere to any standard but your own little whims!"

i wish to adress the second. the former (though still a large problem) seems to be LESS of a problem these days than the latter. and i just feel like talking about the latter. ladder. meaning, more of a lad? so to say you're more manly than somebody else, you could say "I'M LADDER THAN YOU". let's try it.

so. looking in the bible. we ARE judged by our actions. first, by other people (which doesn't really matter unless it's in relation to christianity. i know that i don't want to cast a poor reflection on my creator) and second, by God.

Proverbs 20:11
Even a child is known by his actions, whether his conduct is pure and right.

so that's the first one. at least, that's what i'm guessing anyway.

Matthew 12:36-37
"But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Hebrews 10:26-27
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

THAT is certainly scary. in other words, everything we say, no matter how seemingly insignificant, will be judged. and if we sin (sin=any transgression against the law or nature of God) after we KNOW the truth, all we can look foward to is hell. and that's not just something the authors were saying to the culture at the time, like when it says "woman shall be silent in church" or "if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace" (rough translations there). Jesus said the first verse, by the way. so, let's take a look at our condition now. this is rather basic theology, but the basics are basic for a reason, meaning they're the base of everything. so it's good to review them. anyway, our condition. we have all sinned. and i don't know about you, but i certainly have deliberately sinned after i knew the truth, and no amount of good deeds can ever save me from that. so, by these verses, we're all going to be judged. God is holy. we aren't. Q.E.D., we're going to experience judgement and be consumed by raging fire.

(just so none of you get the wrong idea, everything i just said in that paragraph was describing our condition apart from the grace of God.)

but, thank God, there's grace. somehow, He can forgive us, perfidious creatures that we are, and accept the prodigal back in. and i'll bet if you're reading this, you know all about grace. isn't it amazing? just put it in context about what i was talking about. He forgives!

and as a disclaimer, i'm not trying to write a hellfire&damnation blog. i'm just trying to present facts and draw conclusions from them. if what i write about happens to be scary, it's because it's true. and life without God's grace is probably the most scary thing imaginable. (by the way, i believe jesus was talking to the religious leaders when he said the first verse. not sure. but they seem fall into the first category of what i said earlier. the PANTSSENDYOUTOHELL, so LIVELEGALISTICALLY category.) and again, i don't agree with the whole fear tactics business when saving people, or writing blogs. love is what saves people.

John 8:3-11
3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

 11"No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

love saves people. and Jesus loves to the degree that he's willing to erase a lifetime of sin. and He also tells us to LEAVE it, meaning not go back into it. but, being the humans that we are, we fail AGAIN. yet, we're still forgiven. but remember our former condition? sin puts us back there. God's grace can pull us out again, but WHY would we want to go back, or condone going back?

random other thought: just because sin is horrible and wrong, doesn't mean we don't want sinners to associate with us, or come to church. we were no differant than them once. and i'd love for all the most horrid sinners in the world to walk into church (now THAT would be a test of faithfulness), so they can be SAVED. and experience grace. meaning they DON'T HAVE TO GO BACK INTO THEIR LIFE OF SIN.

and that's all i have to say. for tonight.

*they did, i guess.

and it's too late to have ice cream now, isn't it.

The Case for Christianity

quotable.

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth, only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.

It is hard to have patience with people who say "There is no death" or "Death doesn't matter." There is death. And whatever is matters. And whatever happens has consequences, and it and they are irrevocable and irreversible. You might as well say that birth doesn't matter.

The trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'

The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.

Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man.

Love, while always forgiving of imperfections and mistakes, can never cease to will their removal.

If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.
